I told my daughters:

There are four sides to every argument.

There is my side.

There is your side.

There is what I think your side is.

There is what you think my side is.

Here, some will object: “There there is also a fifth side — the truth.”

For a liberal, there is no such fifth side.

This absence is the quintessence of liberalism.
