We can say the same to those, like myself, who fervently tried to find an successor existential threat to the Soviet Union. For two decades we tried to replace it with Islamic extremism. The foreign policy class are now trying to replace it with great power rivalry against Russia & China, while the hybrid nations of Yankee swirl & Dixie swirl believe it’s each other.
It is most of us. I’m trying to kick the habit, but it’s slow going.
